Bite Size Tidbits!
I'm always getting asked for recommendations regarding places to go, restaurants to eat at, and things to do around around New York City. Here are a few of my favorites, including the books and websites that I find interesting and informative:
People:
- For those of you who know me, know that I am obsessed with The Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten. I love her story. - Nothing inspires me more that seeing the the impossible happen. We all know how hard it is get motivated to lose a little weight, but imagine being 100 pounds overweight! With all the silly reality shows on television nowadays, there is one standout and its not even a "guilty pleasure!" I set my DVR every Tuesday at 8pm to watch The Biggest Loser on NBC. Whether its a 2 pound weight loss or 10 pound weight loss, you can relate to their struggles and root for them to succeed. I guarantee by the end of the program, you'll be cheering them too. It also gives great tips that anyone wanting to change their lifestyle can use.In addition, check out People Magazine's yearly edition of amazing weight loss stories! - The Skinny Chef: My good friend Jennifer Iserloh will show you healthy and delicious recipes as well as great tips in the kitchen. - I have been practicing Pilates for 10 years at Power Pilates. The teachers and staff are first-rate. The environment is inviting and not intimidating. - Unless you don't own a t.v., you've probably have seen my mentor and friend Joy Bauer, MS, RD, CDN on the Today Show, but I want you all to know that she also has a fabulous book out in stores called Food Cures. It's a one stop guide regarding everything you wanted to know about nutrition and may or may not be afraid to ask! She really proves that eating and living well can really cure what ails you. Joy provides easy to follow advice, recipes, reference lists and meal plans in a way that everyone can understand... and backs it up with the science to boot. This book is as close as you can get to her endless wealth of knowledge and experience without an appointment!
- I was looking for a gift and stumbled upon this gem, called Eat, Drink and Be Gorgeous by Esther Blum, MS, RD, CDN, CNS. The tagline says it all: A Nutritionist's Guide to Living Well While Living It Up. Whether you're a city girl or just someone living the good life, this book gives great tips and advice that even your significant other will benefit from as well!
